How to choose snow boots and winter boots

The right winter boots keep your feet warm, dry and steady when the weather turns. Whether you're facing deep snow, wet slush or frosty pavements, these are the four things that matter.

1. Grip

The sole is what keeps you upright. Look for soft rubber with deep, widely spaced lugs that bite into snow and shed slush. Our waterproof non-slip snow boots and non-slip plush-lined winter boots are built for slippery days. On sheet ice, add slip-on ice grips.

2. Waterproofing

Snow melts, and slush soaks through ordinary boots in minutes. Waterproof boots keep water out when you're standing in it. Try the insulated waterproof snow boots or the waterproof fleece-lined snow boots. Not sure of the difference? Read waterproof vs water-resistant.

3. Warmth

Plush, fleece and faux fur linings trap warm air around your feet. For the coldest days, the plush-lined waterproof snow boots and faux fur-trimmed snow boots are the warmest in the range. Add heated socks if your feet always feel the cold.

4. Height

Getting the size right

Measure your feet in the socks you'll wear, later in the day. Each product page has a size guide with UK, EU and US sizes and foot length. If you have wide feet, choose a wide-fit style rather than sizing up.

Frequently asked questions

What boots are best for walking on snow and ice?

Boots with a soft rubber sole, deep lugs, a low wide heel and a waterproof upper. On sheet ice, add slip-on ice grips.

Are snow boots waterproof?

Many are, but not all. Look for 'waterproof' rather than 'water-resistant' if you'll be standing in slush or wet snow.

Should I size up in snow boots?

Only enough to fit thicker winter socks. Check the size guide and measure your feet in the socks you'll wear.

Can I wear snow boots every day?

Yes. Ankle and mid-calf snow boots are comfortable for everyday wear through winter, not just on snowy days.

Every order ships free to the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, usually arriving in 5 to 7 working days, and you have 30 days to return anything that isn't right.
